7 Days Tour to Western Ethiopia & Surma Tribes

Tour Name: 7 Days Tour to Western Ethiopia & Surma Tribes

Destinations: Jimma, Bonga, Kibish and Surma

Duration: 7 Days & 6 Nights

Transportation: Surface drive, & flight

Day 1: Arrival at Addis Ababa, Ethiopia

On arrival at Bole International Airport, you will be met and transferred to your Hotel. Check into the Hotel and relax. Overnight stay will be in the hotel.

Day 2: Flight to Jimma

Wake up early and board a morning flight to Jimma. Arrive at Jimma and check-in at hotel. Then after short breaks, visit Jimma Museum and King Abba Jiffar palace (1853 – 1925) that still standing. Overnight stay will be in the hotel.

Day 3: Drive to MizanTeferi

After having a breakfast, a drive will take you to Mizan Teferi passing through fertile green landscape, tea plantation, & wild coffee forest.

You will arrive in MizanTeferi in the afternoon and check-in at hotel. On arrival at Mizan Teferi process entrance permission, fill forms, and finish all formalities at Culture & tourism office. Dinner & spend the night in the hotel. Overnight stay will be in the hotel.

Day 4: Drive to Kibish & visit village

After breakfast you will be driven to Kibish. On the way visit the Bebeka Coffee Plantation (the largest coffee farm in Ethiopia), where they cultivate organic coffee tree, peppers, as well as rubber trees. You will have a picnic lunch.

Then you will be driven to Kibish and you will be arriving in Kibish in the afternoon and stretch your tent for camping. Later, you can walk around the Surma village at Kibish, where you can visit with the local Surma people. You will have dinner and spend the night at camping. Overnight stay will be in the hotel.

Day 5: Visit Surma Villages around Kibish

An early morning drive will take you to Surma villages ( Surma women are known for their beatification rituals, in preparation for marriage: most women have their bottom teeth removed and their bottom lips pierced, then stretched, so as to allow insertion of a clay lip plate & men are known for stick-fighting competition, known as Donga, now that is official prohibited).

You will have a picnic lunch or back to the camping site have lunch. Afternoon continue a visit to other villages. You will have dinner and spend the night at camping. Overnight stay will be in the hotel.

Day 6: Drive back to Mizan Teferi or Bonga

After breakfast you will be driven back to Mizan Teferi (apprx. 300 Km from Kibish) or Bonga (apprx 420Km from Kibish). You will be arriving in Mizan Teferi late afternoon and check into a hotel. You will have dinner and spend the night at the hotel. Overnight stay will be in the hotel.

Day 7: Drive back to Jimma & fly back to Addis

In the morning after breakfast you drive back to Jimma. Depending on your flight time you will be transferred to airport.

After breakfast at hotel, in time transfer to flight to back to Addis Ababa. Arrive at Addis Ababa.

You will arrive in Addis Ababa midday/early afternoon enjoy a sightseeing around Churchill avenue & visit the status of the Lion of Juda of Emperor Hailse Selassie, Tigliachin Monuments, Addis Ababa city hall and take a short walk around the old part of Addis Ababa including the first hotel in Ethiopia, Taitu hotel, and old post office. Later you are free last minute shopping.

After a farewell dinner, depending on your flight time you will be transferred to Bole international airport to board the flight for your next destination or back home.
